THE SECRET OF BIG SPEAKERS:
The THREE is the first compact speaker to surpass the clarity of a full-size sound system in a large room, while its small size means it feels at home in much more modest spaces. In fact, smaller rooms benefit the most from THREE-controlled bass. The Kii THREE is truly an uncompromising product that sounds better than large speakers and fits small rooms better than other small speakers.
Basic acoustics says that a classic boxed speaker directs sound to listeners only from the mid-range upwards, while bass frequencies radiate all around. The frequency of change depends on the size of the front part of the box (the "baffle"). The smaller the baffle, the higher the frequency at which bass sounds are broadcast all around, rather than directed towards the listener.
In short, that's why large speakers have so far provided much more precise timing and detail in bass and bass than small speakers: less interference in the room. And this is what Kii managed to realize with a compact speaker.
HIGH END TECHNOLOGY IN A COMPACT HOUSING!
Each Kii THREE includes multichannel DSP, multiple DACs and power amplifiers. Few companies could produce such a compact design paired with truly world-class performance electronics. But at the same time, few active speakers have been designed by people who previously preferred peak power amplification and digital conversion.
Each Kii THREE has an amplifier power of 1500W. It was designed by Bruno Putzeys with the latest development of Class D technology. Unique in the Kii THREE implementation is the combined voltage/current control loop that goes beyond a better amplifier – it actively improves the distortion performance of the drive units, which contributes significantly to the extreme resolution of the speaker.
This means, of course, that the performance of AD/DA conversion must be the same as that of amplifiers. This task fell to Bart van der Laan, who has a long history in designing DSP and converter cards for high-end professional audio equipment. Kii Audio's implementation was a huge success: the entire passage through the AD/DA circuit of the THREE signal processing board is completely noise- and interference-free, a feat not even achieved by the most expensive audiophile stand-alone units.
In addition to Active Wave Focusing filters, DSP is responsible for keeping drive units within safe operating range by finely adjusting filters instead of brutally limiting the signal, allowing the THREE to play significantly louder and clearer than much larger conventionally designed speakers.
On the input side, you can choose between analog, digital inputs. All digital inputs must be resampled and rescheduled using Kii's proprietary jitter prevention algorithm, which guarantees actual "bit-by-bit" audio performance for any digital source.
The electronics package is a milestone in itself. What it does with the unique acoustic design defies imagination. You need to hear to realize the magnitude of the revolution that Kii THREE represents.
